The Cake Boss

Well, I admit it. I am completely  hooked on anything Buddy Valastro is up to. I have never been to his bakery, but his TV reality show has got me hooked. I dream about bitting into one the “Lobster Tails” he bakes. His cakes are both works of art, and full of the sweet goodness I crave. I long for the day that the website starts selling online, and I can have his treats shipped overnight to California.

To say that Buddy Inspired me this week is an understatement. With the birth of my new daughter, Madeline, I decided it would be really fun to bake a cake to honor her arrival. Who could think of a better way to celebrate with family than with a fresh baked gourmet cake?

Since I have never baked a cake from scratch before, I went to my Bobby Flay cookbook. Low and behold, his Coconut Cream cake sounds delectable. Not only do I love coconut, but the recipe looks very challenging. If you know me, I love a challenge.

I had help. Janet and Debbie made the custard and simple syrup. Without that  help I would have failed I am sure. It came out great and my family was impressed. I see more baking in my future!

Where does inspiration come from?

This last couple weeks I have not been very motivated to create art. I am not sure why. Perhaps the stress of the rat race? Maybe it is that my mind is on other things; like time with my family, or even fears for my future. What ever the reason it usually takes a weekend away to spark some new fire and get the creative juices going. Most of the time I create art it is directly influenced by something I have experienced in nature. Sunsets, ocean life, extreme weather, flora and fauna.
All these natural surroundings provide me with inspiration. A trip to Costa Rica in 2002 has given me years of inspiration. I created my painting titled “Montezuma Lunch” 7 years after that trip. Inspiring places seem to live in my head for a while. That is why I started creating art. I want people to experience the things I have seen, and also react to my inspirations.

Since I do not have any tropical destinations planned this year, I have been looking for inspiration in other places. Mostly I have found inspiration from other artists. In fact the reason I am writing this article is that I am very excited to see a new release by Jay Alders. It is called “Beaming with abundance” and you can see it here: LINK TO JAY ALDERS

I have to say that this painting will inspire me for some time. The treatment of the clouds and water is amazing, and the energy between the couple is compelling. This is a great example of Jay’s talent and I am inspired to paint some more!!!! Where do you find Inspiration?
